As a new mom, I’m always looking for ways to make my life a little easier. When it comes to my home, I like having my home be organized and look pretty put together. Not magazine worthy, but when I look around my home, I like to think it looks like I have my life together! I’ve found that there’s 8 things that always make it seem like my house is organized and clean, even with a couple dogs, a cat, and a baby!

1. Smell Nice

This one you cant see all the time, but having a nice smelling home is such an easy way to make your home seem like it is put together. My mom is a Scentsy consultant so I am always using the warmers and scents from her! But I also love a good candle here and there too – there’s just something about candlelight that adds extra glamour to a room.

2. Make the Beds

To be honest, I hate making the bed. I don’t know why, it just sucks to me. BUT once it’s done, I feel like I just accomplished so much even if I’ve done nothing all day ha! Make the bed, it’ll feel good!

3. Pick Up Living Areas

I try to take five to ten minutes before bed to just pick up the living room and dining room since those are the rooms we spend most of our time in. It is super nice to wake up the next morning to a front room that isn’t cluttered and a dining room table that has space to sit!

4. Organized Spaces

Along with picking up the living areas, having a designated spot for things is so helpful too! For example, we have trays, just like these, on the coffee table and end table that we always put our remotes in so we know where they go at the end of the day and are easy to find! Cause come on, how many times have you lost the remote in the cushions?

Another easy organization hack I love is having a basket for blankets (and my cat loves it too!). We seem to have hoarded tons of blankets, so rather than stacking them somewhere, we have a basket (this one specifically!) in our living room that we fold them up nicely to be held.

5. Rug Grippers

I know this is weirdly specific. But hear me out. When I got rug grippers to keep my rugs in place, I don’t ever have to worry about my rugs being all wonky throughout the house. It’s one little thing that I don’t have to stress about looking off in my house. It’s crazy how straight rugs make such an impact! And these ones have been tested by my 2 dogs and cat, so they stick!

6. Clean the Nooks and Crannies

This one is something you have to dedicate time to do, but it is so worthwhile once it’s done! What are the spots in your house that never get cleaned? Mine is the trim around the house. When I was pregnant, I told my husband I was going to clean and repaint all of it at 9 months – LOL I napped instead. But taking the time to wipe them down has made our house look ten times better!

So think, what is the visible spot you hardly clean? Mirrors? Doorknobs and doors? The cobwebs in the corners (I have these!)? I found this article on Buzzfeed that has cleaning hacks and have been using quite a few of them to help ease the burden of cleaning!

7. Color Palette for Each Room

Another great way to make your home look put together is having a designated color palette for each room! I recommend making the furniture a neutral color and then accent with color. For example, my living room is gray and blue. The furniture is gray and the accents are blue, so it’s super easy to change the color if I’d like. Everything goes with gray 😉

8. Designated Holiday Decor Spots

This is a great way to make it look like you have your home put together – decorating for holidays. My shortcut to this is having certain spots around my house that I have different decoration types. Over a doorway, I always have a festive garland. On my fireplace mantle, we have space for a couple themed trinkets. In the hallway, we have a permanent nail for a sign! Plus doormats and wreaths. Going back to the scent of my home, changing out the fragrances to fit the season or holiday is great too!

Not only does this help it seem like I have my home put together, but it also keeps me honest about what decorations I need. Look around your house and where are the places you can have a designated decoration that just rotates for the holiday? Then decorate! 🙂

I hope you found one of these 8 ways to make your home look put together helpful, as I find that my house is the thing on the bottom of my priority list. But by using these 8 easy ways, I’ve been able to not be too overwhelmed with my messy home.
