Nicole is an education and motherhood blogger who lives south of Seattle, Washington. She is a high school English teacher and former high school social studies teacher, currently teaching at a culturally diverse high school within her hometown. With the love of history and culture, she has a tendency to travel and wanted to share her adventures with the world as well.
Some need to knows about Nicole:
- Nicole is a former high school bowling coach, and an active bowler herself.
- She is married with two dogs, a cat, a Capricorn daughter, and expecting a baby boy in August, that all fill her life with happiness, especially when they (husband included) do something crazy!
Behind the Classroom started when Nicole began to realize that the key to successful teaching is to take care of herself. The education field paints a picture that teachers have to push themselves to exhaustion to be considered a “good” teacher. However, we are seeing the impact of this, with more teachers leaving the field than are coming in. So Nicole wanted to share her story of balancing life and teaching, to help inspire other teachers to take care of themselves and realize that it’s okay to do so!
During her third year of teaching (and at the beginning of the pandemic), she and her husband were elated find out they were pregnant with their first child. A girl, born December 29th, 2020, during the height of the COVID pandemic. As her daughter began to near the age of 2, her husband and her decided that they were ready to start trying for their second child. In December of 2022, they were excited to learn that they were pregnant with their second, who turned out to be a boy, and is expected in August of 2023.
As Nicole has gone through pregnancy and parenting, she also shares her experience of being a pandemic parent, first-time mom, soon-to-be mother of two and teacher mom.
Teaching and parenting is hard. Don’t feel like you have to do it alone!
