All the baby sleep resources always talk about swaddling as a helpful tool to get longer stretches of sleep for babies. So, when H was born, we wanted to find the swaddle that met both of our needs: she liked it and it was easy to put on. For the first couple weeks of her life, we experimented with several types of baby swaddles. With so many choices, we narrowed it down to a couple types that she liked. Out of this list, I hope you find the best baby swaddle – aka “the one” – that makes newborn sleep easier for you and baby!

A Note on Fit and Safety:
When I was figuring out when to size up on swaddles and sleep sacks, I was told to always pay attention to the weight measurements for a safe fit. For example, when H hit the max weight limit, even if she was still in the recommended age range or in the length, it was time to move up in sizes. Please keep that in mind when shopping for your little one!
Also note you should stop swaddling at the first signs of rolling or at 8 weeks, whichever comes first.
1. Halo Sleepsack Swaddle
This swaddle was the one my daughter loved the most. It was super easy to put on, with the Velcro wings and as we got closer to transitioning from baby swaddles, I could do one arm or both arms out as well! However, diaper changes meant completely undoing it and as baby gets more wiggly, it was hard to get her arms in sometimes.
Pros: super easy to put on, can help for transitioning out of swaddles
Cons: completely undo for diaper changes, can be difficult to put on as baby gets more mobile
2. Happiest Baby Sleepea 5-Second Swaddle
This was another swaddle that we loved! The 5-second claim is no lie and it also allowed for diaper changes without undoing the swaddle. However, because it was so tight, it seemed like H grew out of it super fast and I didn’t want to buy the next size up if it only lasted a couple more weeks. Plus she liked the Halo, so we had backups!
Pros: super easy to put on, diaper changes doable with it on
Cons: pretty tight so baby grows out quickly
3. Love to Dream Swaddle
This swaddle was a great choice when starting to think about ending swaddling, or if baby likes to sleep with their hands up! I really thought this one was super cute on too, little flying squirrel baby!
Pros: great for baby if they like arms up, can help for transitioning out of swaddles
Cons: have to undo for diaper changes
Honorable Mentions:
These baby swaddles I wasn’t able to try myself, but they come highly recommended! Check them out if you are worried that the ones above won’t work (or you’ve tried them and it’s a no!).
- SwaddleMe
- Woombie
- Ollie – this is the one that Taking Cara Babies recommends, but I could never find it in stock!
Remember that some babies don’t like to swaddle and that’s okay! No transition for you!
