As teachers, the first day of school is such an exciting time. Fresh start, new faces, clean classroom (hopefully!). But with the new faces also means first impressions all over again! One of the first things students and families will notice are the clothes you wear, so a first day of school outfit for teachers is important! I feel like I change mine every year, but would love to get one that is my “go-to” per say. And after the research I’ve done for this post – I’m finding it’s going to be pretty hard to just stick with one!

Smart Casual First Day of School Outfits for Teachers
For the first day of school outfits, I usually dress “smart casual” as I love the style of being casual, but just a step up! Plus then you can wear these outfits throughout the school year as well!
I saw an ad for these floral overalls and I am in love with them. They are on my wishlist for sure – such a cute, smart casual first day of school outfit for teachers! If you want some more neutral overalls, I always get compliments when I wear these ones! Mine are the color rust, but there’s so many other colors to choose from!
When it comes to smart casual outfits, I love dresses as well. Dresses are such an easy way to look dressed up, but really, it’s just one thing to put on – and as a non-morning person – just throw it on and you look put together 🙂 This maxi dress has pockets and comes in a bunch of colors and patterns!
My husband, who is also a teacher, shared with me for the men – that you can’t go wrong with khakis and a polo shirt. Smart casual right there folks!

Teacher Tees as First Day of School Outfits for Teachers
I also love a more casual style for first day of school outfits, as there are so many cute first day of school tee shirts! So if casual is more your style, I would recommend getting a first day of school tee shirt for every first day of school 🙂
Some of my favorite first day of school teacher tees are from TeacherCareCrate! I love that buying them supports a fellow teacher’s business as well!
One of the first that caught my eye is the “First Day Vibes” school bus shirt! If you are into checker print and ‘00s fashion – this design is for you!
For my Swiftie teachers, look no further than the “Back to School Era” shirt! If you’ve gone to the concert, I’m pretty sure this is a need for your first day of school outfit!
My personal favorite (because it has a rainbow) is the “Prepare to be Schooled” shirt! So cute! And it can be worn outside the first day of school too!
If you’re looking for a “First Day of School” shirt, I found this pastel tie-dye shirt that reads Happy First Day of School!
There is also a Welcome Back to School shirt that is great for that first week of back to school lessons and days that is adorable!
Then I really enjoyed this shirt as a first day of school outfit, but it can really be worn any day of the school year! I mean, who doesn’t want to hear (or read) that someone is “happy to see their face!”
Of course, no teacher tee outfit is complete without wearing something on the bottom! I would wear either regular jeans or to jazz it up a little bit, some black jeans!
Subject Specific First Day of School Outfits for Teachers
When I was in high school, one of my math teachers had a number blazer that she wore every first day of school. Even now, over 10 years later, I still remember the blazer and her because it was her thing. If you are a secondary or specials teacher, you can wear a subject specific first day of school outfit too!
Science First Day of School Outfits
For science, there are a couple of shirts from Teacher Care Crate that I love for science teachers to wear – and they can be worn throughout the school year too. The first is one that has flasks with flowers and it says “helping curious minds grow.” The next one that I like for science teachers to wear as first day of school outfit is a shirt that says “science – it’s like magic, but real.” Talk about such cute ways to promote science to students!

Math First Day of School Outfits
As I mentioned above, my math teacher always wrote a numbers blazer as her first day of school outfit. So I went looking to see what Amazon had to offer. No number blazer (I’m pretty sure she thrifted it!), but they did have a numbers dress!
English First Day of School Outfits
Even it comes to English teachers, shirts about reading are my favorite to wear!
This shirt is great and so simple for a first day of school shirt – just a book with flowers. Love <3
The other one than I liked is another Tailor Swift reference – “In My English Teacher Era.”
Social Studies First Day of School Outfits
If you’re wanting a positive social studies teacher shirt, I love this one about teaching history to those who will make history. Ugh, too cute!
The next shirt I saw and it was something that I’m passionate about. As a former social studies teacher, I render always trying to explain why social studies was important, so having this shirt state that all subjects within social studies is relevant is right up my alley!
Last, but not least, is this world map dress because how awesome is it to wear a map?! And on the first day of school? Yes please!
Music First Day of School Outfits
If you’re a music teacher, there are so many great music teacher shirts that would make great first day of school outfits! My favorite one was the one that said “It’s a Good Day to Make Music.” So stinking cute and perfect for a music teacher!
Plus there are some super cute music dresses, with colorful music notes all over! Or even this more subtle black dress with white notes around the hemline.
Art First Day of School Outfits
Finding clothes for an adult that are art related was surprisingly difficult. However, I did love this Barbie-esque Art Teacher shirt!
