Sleep of Mind Review: A Sleep Sack to Tackle Anxiety

As a mom who battled postpartum anxiety, especially around sleep and SIDS, I researched and read about all kinds of products and tips to relieve my concern. This Sleep of Mind review tells you about a product that is easy to use and truly eases your mind while your baby sleeps.

When I received my Sleep of Mind sleep sack, both of my kids were in the toddler phase of life, so I worried much less about SIDS. Even with that, I still check on my kids to make sure they’re breathing, stare at the monitor, or even just go and lay my hand on their chest. What I appreciate the most about this product is that you don’t have to spend potential sleeping time for yourself doing those things – you can simply look at the monitor and see them breathing! Peace of mind, enough to go back to sleep yourself, even if you have anxiety around sleep like I did.

Pros of Sleep of Mind

  • No wires: I always feel like the less wires you can have in your baby’s room, the better!
  • No false alarms: With this sleep sack, you can simply watch your baby’s chest and get peace of mind.
  • One less step at nap and bedtime: Having one less step in the routine helps everyone, especially when you have a fussy baby!

Drawbacks of Sleep of Mind

  • Sizing is limited right now: Right now, Sleep of Mind only has the size small available. But I do know that the medium is going to be released in the next few months!
  • Positioning of the camera: You need to make sure that the camera is positioned above to be able to see the movement. Some folks may already have this set up, which is great! But I know that I just had my camera pointing more horizontally to the crib, not crucially from above.
  • If the baby doesn’t sleep in a crib/bassinet…: This is my kids. My daughter was brought into the bed after 7 months and my son after 4. However, the trade off is that by cosleeping, there are other ways to check their breathing since they are right there!

Alternatives to Sleep of Mind

  • Owlet

We had an Owlet sock and monitor for our first and I can honestly say, I never used it. It was right around when they were being recalled and I heard about burns happening on baby feet, so I was honestly too anxious to use it! Add on that there were reported false alarms happening as well? No thank you. I haven’t used the new re-released Owlets, but I don’t really want to spend over $200 for something that I didn’t use the first time I had it.

  • Regular sleep sacks

Of course, there are always regular sleep sacks. But if you’re wanting something that helps alleviate the concern of SIDS, the Sleep of Mind swaddle and sleep sack has the reflective strip. I can’t think of any other sleep sack that has that!

  • Nanit

Another camera monitor that is super expensive – but folks do enjoy this baby monitor! I’m hesitant to rely on technology after the issues that I had with the Owlet monitors, but if you want to have a camera monitor as an added protection, I would absolutely go with a Nanit monitor.

When becoming a new parent, for the first time or again, SIDS is something that always lingers in the back of your mind. As a mom that developed postpartum anxiety – and manifested in being obsessed with sleep and checking that my babies were breathing – I am so glad that there is a simple, cheaper solution available in the form of a sleep sack and swaddle. Add one to your registry, or buy one now to give it a try!
