During my student teaching, I will always remember my mentor teacher telling me that teaching doesn’t need to be a solo career – in fact, the best will borrow and then adapt to fit their own style. After my 7 years of teaching, a transition from social studies to English, and a location change, I know that this piece of advice was so important to keeping my sanity as a young and new teacher. With that, I wanted to put a list together of English teacher blogs that have truly helped me as a new English teacher!
Ashley is a former English teacher who I absolutely adore for her ideas. Some of her most popular ideas are focusing on podcast and poetry pairings and super unique lesson activities. I often use her activities as filler day activities and as classroom decor as well!
As an AP Literature teacher, Gina is my go-to for AP Lit lessons. She was even mentioned at my AP training by the teacher, that’s how amazing she is. But not only does she provide ideas and resources for AP Literature, but the things she writes about can apply to any English classroom. I’m a firm believer in not limiting my curriculum to just my AP class and general classes. There’s nothing wrong with challenging my general classes and having fun activities for my AP students. Gina helps tons with helping me scaffold and think about fun things for both types of students.
Abby is currently a middle school reading teacher, but has lots of high school experience as well. She has tons of great reading ideas – such as first chapter Fridays, movie trailer Tuesdays, Investigate the Teacher first day of school activities, and, my favorite, question trails! If you’re looking for ways to have engaging and fun reading activities, Write on with Miss G is the English teacher blog for you to check out!
Samantha is my go-to English teacher blog for ideas about new books to bring into my classroom library or to add to my TBR list. She is always on top of what’s new and coming out, plus she is one of the hosts for the #AdultsReadYA challenge that I take part in on Instagram!
Christina is an amazing resource to access – as she has her teacher blog, but also has a HUGE TeachersPayTeachers store as well. I often find myself taking some of her ideas and implementing them within my classroom and turning to her blog for some pacing ideas within my English classes.
What I love the most about this English teacher blog is that there are several teachers that collaborate on here, so you’re getting LOTS of ideas and viewpoints for lesson ideas and different procedures for within the classroom.
I also highly recommend checking and seeing if they have Instagram pages, as they share things on there all the time too! I also have some recommended teachers to follow on Instagram that I list in this article.

A great list!
I do recommend all teachers to start a blog, as it can be a showcase/portfolio for your materials. We all get ideas and inspire one another!
