No matter what is happening in world, there are always going to be times that you wish you could make time go faster. Currently, we’re still living through a global pandemic (and with a young baby, we avoid going out as much as possible!) so I have to find ways to pass time at home. But maybe you have an event you’re looking forward to and you want time to fly by. Or you’re waiting for someone to get ready. Either way, here are 14 ways to spend your time at home to make it go faster!
1. Read a book.
This is probably one of the most popular ways to pass time. Reading a book is always a great way to be productive! Whatever book you want – could be related to work, for fun, to learn about history, whatever. But reading a book is my number one suggestion. But I won’t lie – I am awful at taking time to read ha!
2. Watch a show.
I love me some Netflix. Sometimes, you just need to binge-watch a show to make time go by! There are so many streaming services that you can go to – Netflix, Disney+, Peacock, Hulu, Amazon Prime. Pick one, find a show, and go for it!
3. Organize that one cluttered area!
Do you have that one spot in your home that is just a disaster area? I have a few more than I’d like to admit. But if you need to feel productive and kill time, organize that disaster spot! Or just start! Maybe it’s a whole room and super overwhelming – just organize a corner or a table.
Our back room works as an extra living room and our dining room, but often becomes our “catch-all” room. So whenever I need to kill time, that’s my area I go to to clean up. Sometimes I’ll just clear off the dining room table, maybe I’ll clean off the couch (yes, stuff gets thrown on the couch), or organize the bookshelf. Even when it’s just a little spot that gets cleaned up, I feel so much better!
4. Cook or bake something!
I often turn to baking when I’m really bored at home! Pinterest and Tasty always have great recipes, so do some research and find something you want to make! It’s okay if it’s not healthy 😉
5. Work on a puzzle.
I absolutely LOVE puzzles. It’s such a great way to pass time and it’s so calming as well. Plus it’s something you can do with friends and family as well! I personally enjoy puzzles that are 500 pieces or less, but if you want to go for the bigger ones – do it!
6. Renovate or redecorate a room in your house.
Ever want to change up an area of your home and feel like you don’t have the time to do so? Well, if you’re looking for a way to pass time – here is your time! In our home, we updated our bathroom and what a difference it made! We also have done some renovation work in our backroom, with replacing the flooring and painting it!
7. Deep clean a room or area.
This can be related to number 3 – organizing your space. But I find that sometimes deep cleaning a room in your house or an area that needs it is a great way to pass time at home. Or find those areas that never get cleaned – the floorboards, crevices in the kitchen, behind the toilet, under furniture, I’m sure you get the idea!
8. Play a video game.
A great way to zone out, relax, and pass time at home is to play a video game! This can be on a tv system, like Playstation or Xbox, or even a game on your phone! There’s so many options that you can turn to – find something that interests you and take some time to play guilt-free 🙂
9. Catch up on those chores you’ve been pushing back.
Have you been avoiding doing the dishes? Or putting away your laundry? Washing your sheets? DO IT! Those chores you have procrastinated an embarrassing amount, take the time to do them now. You’ll be surprised how quickly you’ll get them done (except washing the sheets, that takes forever and is why I procrastinate that one tons!).
10. Work out!
Do a quick workout at home. There are so many online videos on YouTube that you have access to for free! Yoga: check, body weight lifting: check, dance: check, boxing: check – seriously, find something that gets you excited to move your body and click play!
11. Go through your closet.
Another way to clean up the house, kinda. Go through your closet and get rid of clothes/shoes/accessories that you no longer want or need. I personally love to send them to thredUP. You can request a free shipping bag, fill it with what you want to get rid of, ship it, and they will attempt to sell it for you (and you get some of the money as a credit or eventually cashout). If it doesn’t sell, they donate it for you! Plus you can shop too! If you’re interested, I have a referral code here that provides you $10 and I get $10 too 🙂
12. Garden or do something in the lawn.
Plant something or mow the lawn! My husband loves to work on our yard to pass time, especially in the spring and summer time. At the beginning of the pandemic, we actually planted rose bushes in our yard and this year, we’re getting to watch them bloom and it feels so good to know that we planted them <3
13. Play with your pets.
If you have pets – cats, dogs, lizards, fish, anything – take some time to play with them. Or admire them if they don’t play (like fish, how do fish play?) My dogs and cat love to play with us. Plus we also give them cuddles, which they adore as well!
14. Pick up a hobby.
If you have lots of time, like quarantining, pick up a hobby! There are so many options that you have. Research some and if there’s one that interests you, go for it! Some that have interested me a little bit: cross-stitching, lettering, and astronomy.
